Engineering the Future: Let’s Celebrate EWeek!
Innovation should be as impactful as it is inspiring. At OurEnergy, we’re honored to celebrate National Engineers Week (February 22–28 • known as EWeek) by joining a global movement to inspire the next generation of innovators and to shape a more sustainable world.
A Vision for Transforming Our Future
Founded in 1951 by the National Society of Professional Engineers (NPSE) to honor George Washington, considered by many as our nation's first engineer, EWeek is more than a professional milestone.
Long before leading the nation, Washington began his career as a professional surveyor at just 17 years old, mapping the rugged Virginia frontier. His engineering mindset proved vital during the Revolutionary War, where he appointed the first Army engineers to design critical defenses. He later championed major infrastructure projects that shaped the young nation, including the layout of Washington D.C. and the construction of the Potowmack Canal. Washington was also a tireless advocate for technical education, a vision that eventually led to the creation of the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers.
It’s this legacy of innovation and leadership that inspired the founding of National Engineers Week to honor his birthday.
This year's theme, "Transform Your Future," reminds us that engineering doesn’t just build infrastructure, it builds opportunities and strengthens the communities that we imagine for ourselves and our children, just as George Washington transformed our nation 250 years ago.
Beyond Technical Achievement: Building a Cleaner Tomorrow
At OurEnergy, engineering is at the heart of everything we do. We believe that technical innovation, community resilience and environmental stewardship must go hand-in-hand:
Innovating for the Future: Our team works daily on renewable energy and sustainable development projects that serve as blueprints for a cleaner tomorrow
Achieving Sustainability Goals: Projects like our work on the Redmond Airport—which achieved LEED Silver certification—prove that ambitious climate goals are within reach
Inspiring the Next Generation
This week is a true testament to our commitment to the future workforce. We actively encourage everyone to get involved and get inspired through programs like Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day. By helping young innovators see their place in this field, we help transform engineering into a powerful tool for socio-economic and environmental justice for many generations to come.
We extend our gratitude to our incredible team of engineers and partners who work tirelessly to make our world greener and more resilient. Let’s continue to power the future together! ☀️⚡
Want to get involved? Join us this week in spotlighting how engineering strengthens connections across our community (you can use available promotional resources and logos for a kickstart), participate in the Future City Competition or join the Introduce a Girl to Engineering Day this Thursday, February 26.
